The Passage Tombs of Co. Sligo
Monday 2nd August 2021 @ 3pm
Dr. Robert Hensey
County Sligo possesses approximately one hundred deeply interconnected passage tombs sites in often dramatic topographical environments, the whole infused by a rich corpus of medieval Gaelic myth.
As one of the best preserved prehistoric monumental landscapes in Europe, it bears exceptional testimony to the worldview and sacred geography of Neolithic people, notably their ability to use architecture to transform a large geographical area in accordance with their religious beliefs and sentiments.
Dr. Robert Hensey researches monuments and societies of the Irish and European Neolithic with particular reference to Irish passage tomb chronology, art and religion. Currently working on the ‘Human Population Dynamics at Carrowkeel’ and ‘Millin Bay Art’ projects.
